Use case
Peak demand management
A handful of hours each month set the demand charge. DYDON Energy AI OS forecasts those hours and moves storage and flexible load before they arrive.
The problem
- The bill is set by a few peaks
- Demand charges are billed on the highest interval of the month, not on average use. One busy afternoon can outweigh weeks of careful operation.
- Contracted capacity is a hard ceiling
- Factories and data centres sign up for a fixed capacity. Going over it means penalties; asking for more means a new connection agreement, which is slow and expensive.
- Load grows faster than the connection
- New production lines and new racks add load long before the network upgrade arrives.
Why current approaches fall short
- Alarms after the fact
- A meter alarm tells you the peak has already happened. By then the charge is locked in for the month.
- Fixed battery schedules
- A battery that discharges at the same hours every day misses peaks that move with weather, orders or workload.
- Manual load shedding
- Asking operations to switch equipment off by hand is disruptive, inconsistent and hard to audit.
How DYDON does it
DYDON Energy AI OS runs the peak-demand stages of the Capability Chain, from connecting the meter and battery to executing dispatch at the edge. Operators set the limits; the platform works inside them.
Connect
Connect meters, storage and flexible load
Site meters, battery systems, inverters and controllable loads come in over Modbus, SunSpec and MQTT, without replacing existing equipment.
Monitor
Watch demand against the limit
Live site demand, state of charge and headroom to the contracted capacity sit in one view.
Predict
Forecast the peak hours
Load forecasts built from interval history, weather, production plans or workload schedules identify which hours are at risk.
Optimise
Plan the response
The platform plans when to charge, when to discharge and which loads to shift so demand stays under the target while the battery stays healthy.
Control
Execute at the edge, with an override
The edge agent executes the plan locally and enforces the safety envelope even when the cloud is unreachable. Operators can pause, override or change the limit at any time.
What you need
- Battery storage
- Buildings & homes
- Grid
- Interval meter data from the site's main connection
- Tariff structure, including the demand charge and contracted capacity
- Battery specifications and current operating limits
- Production or workload schedules, where available
What you can track
The platform records these for every site, so the result can be evaluated against your own baseline.
- Monthly peak demand against the contracted capacity
- Number of intervals above the target demand threshold
- Battery energy dispatched during forecast peak hours
- Flexible load shifted out of peak hours
- Forecast accuracy for peak timing and size
- Operator overrides and their reasons
